So excited for Pamela Love's Topshop jewelry line. She's my favorite designer, hands down. There's just something so innately cool about every piece. I love that much of her inspirations are historical, even anthropological. From western to goth, tribal to rocker, it all syncs perfectly with my palette. I so desperately one day want to be able to wear her claw bracelets in stacks up both my arms. Heavy and extreme, exactly what I was going for. In the meantime though, I will definitely be picking up the above at the end of May.

Good God, doesn't this thing age?! Seriously now, she's pushing 30 is she not? Isn't anyone alarmed that she looks younger than when she played Queen Padme Amidala???? So I don't know about you, but I cleaned out several Targets when the Rodarte line debuted. Looks like Natalie Portman did too... and then decided to wear it all at once. Now I'm being catty because I was unable to find a black version of the yellow bow dress she's wearing, in my size. No, but seriously, she's giving my dress a bad name. The dress is so delicate, yet layers and the neckline is the prettiest part, but who would know that looking at this picture? Too many pieces; the black structured jacket and belt is a failed balancing of the fluttery chiffon and the stark and opaque black doesn't blend the outfit. Please, she looks like a little girl who was playing dress up and didn't have time to change completely into her prim and cold English boarding school uniform. Oh, I see, she is recreating an alternative ending to Beauty and the Beast, where Belle instead ditches the Beast and enrolls in etiquette school to reclaim her perviously ignored education in hopes of self-improving; a venture I am completely behind btw, since she did essentially fall in love with a giant angry cat... Please consult the below picture in comparison and just try to disagree with me!

I had forgotten how desolate it is in Chicago at this time of year. It's always interesting to me how the people here change during these arctic months. Everyone accepts the wind, snow, sleet, ice, bitter cold, but we all ban together in spite. The nostalgia and charm of winter wonderlands faded a while ago with the holidays. Every time the snow starts to clear from the street, a massive storm hits again and my Toyota and me are doing figure eights in the street. The only thing to keep me warm is my beyond wonderful space heater and day dreams of warmer, greener places. Dan Martensen is an amazing photographer, who has an amazing house in upstate NY. Basically, my dream house. These shots of him and his property are beautiful, quiet, and my main source of envy today. In conclusion, my Midwest gritty tribe, we are some tough kids...pale and wind-chapped, but tough as nails.

I found quite the gem at work today. A reversible skirt; leopard on one side, leather on the other, giant black zipper going all the way down one side! This is also the same place where I found my amazing Elizabeth and James plaid button-down! So I've been really rockin' and rollin' via moi style. My favorite items from my closet recently have been echoing such; a pair of short motorcycle boots, anything black, studded paneled pants, huge men's sweaters. Very band-on-tour, androgynous, Parisian, urban, woodsman. Yup, that about sums it up.

Oh, PS I 've started my second month at Crossroads Trading Company, which is a really amazing retail company. In a nut shell, we buy and sell trendy, designer clothing. We're eco-friendily, fashion-conscious, and color-coded!!!! It's really exhausting and it's more than working a normal retail job, it requires being aware of fashion trends and being able to relate and translate for our multi-fold costumer demographics. We have a few stores in the Chi, but we're mostly based California. So, please find a store/me and come buy (or sell)!!

And now I must leave and pretend to study for my final tomorrow, while entertaining whether I enjoy MTV's new show, "Styl'd" which I probably shouldn't do at the same time, but ehhh whatever. I. Hate. Finals.

I've been really inspired by Paris recently. It's sort of my go-to fantasy urban inspiration. By far, the best city I've ever experienced, which is saying a lot because we Chicagoians are very loyal! Well suffice to say, Paris, I will call you home one day! I've also been consuming French films starring Louis Garrel (above) who could literally melt me with one glance. I'm quite drawn to the Parisian, dark, tall, mysterious and enticing accents of French boys. I just saw him in "La Bonne Personne" and before that "Dans Paris" both which I highly recommend, mostly because he really is a brilliant actor. So now it's a waiting game until my Netflix comes!

Today I completely ignored my school work and focused on hammering a little dent in my fashion homework (Style.com is my heaven by the way). Speaking of, I'm unfortunately ambivalent towards John Galliano's 2009 Spring RTW collection. Galli is a God, but that being said, grievances must be expressed. I was really grooving on the first five or so looks. I'm down for the London Bridges look/military anything. I even didn't mind the juxtapose of the soft shapes and fabrics with the masculine tailored trend. Then it just progressed into this weird Easter at the horse track situation. It may be the misanthrope in me, but really saturated, bright colors make me nauseous. It reminded me of... beach towel colors... not okay. I will say there are some really pretty gowns and dresses and I am sure I will see them soon on the red carpet. And that pink hair in the last photograph above is really making me jealous insane. Then there was this cool floral, almost water color print, which I would have liked in any other circumstance but this. All in all, it was treading the line of mish-mosh. Lingerie chiffon, red and black, military, Easter egg hunting, naval commanders, it was just too much to keep in mind. It should excite and entice, but I should never strain to remember a great collection. I prefer a fluid cohesive progression of theme. That is just the obsessive compulsive in me. That is also my personal preference in fashion ideology for me. A collection is an experience, as I have lamented before, but truly, it has to remain steady and unwavering. There was just something about Galliano that was unbalanced. BUT that's just me, the incessant nit-picker and to end on a positive note, because you can't win me every time, but it's important to note when you do, Galliano's 2009 fall RTW was utter perfection. I decided to include some of my favorite shots because one, they are amazing, and two, one of my previous posts included a fall Galliano dress in an editorial and it's always nice to return to. Yes, there is nothing I love more than Russian anything. This collection on the other hand is quite extraordinary. There is luxury and an exoticism that wouldn't necessarily be associated with Russian tundra, but here I am transported to a cold, snowy wonderland of diamonds and Russian Christmas youth. Just chilling.

It has taken me a few days, but I am finally able to put into words my feelings concerning the Alexander McQueen Spring RTW 2010 collection. Simply, utter incandescence. Lately, I haven't been knocked off my chair, shocked into new waves of electrical currency, or livened by the inhalation of newborn fresh air.... and with particular regards to what's on the runways. Eh, sorry, but it's the truth. Aesthetically and conceptually, McQueen hit every groove on my palette. It was like watching evolution, literally. His models were like alien reptile-mammals. Claw-footed, gnarled, ghastly pale, taught, incredible haired, alien reptiles! I must add, I completely bow down to those models for being able to and rocking the insane footwear. They moved like softly slow alien pod people that walk with a stiff, yet graceful fluidity. Ah the shoes! Such brilliance are the giant toe points, hoof-like shape, metal-industrial-like details, the incredible reptile skins and sequins. The shapes and textures were premium and flawless. Ok now let's get to the clothes! I know computerized, intricate, graphic designs are being explored by more than one, but McQueen takes it to a whole different level. The prints are almost more alive than the models and the entire progression of the collection was respectively fluid and ultimately cohesive. Sometimes, as you watch things go down the runway, you just get lost in them and that's the best because it becomes an experience, not just models wearing clothes. So all in all, let us all bow down to a master, the prince, and an utter delight every single time.

Lately, I have been out of control busy. School and particularly work has completely consumed my energy, but my large employee discount and first dibs on cashmere and dvf make it all worth it. So much for indian summer however. Fall wouldn't be so bad, but the weather has been really rainy and gloomy. However, I had forgotten how much I love boots and coats and scarves and the fact that whatever is underneath doesn't really matter. So helpful. These pictures are from last month's Vogue. I've been behind on posting all my magazine finds, plus my scanner is craptastic. They remind me of what fall should be and it gives me a fuzzy feeling inside. Truly. This is also in preparation for harvest times and Halloween. Been living on lentil soup and coffee, reading magazines and using chap stick every five seconds. Guess I'm not minding the fall after all. My blessed gem has just informed me RODARTE is the next designer for Target!! Out of control, I cannot wait! Supposedly, it will be out in December (20th) and there will be around 55 pieces (the most so far for all the Go International lines). UHHH I die. Can't wait to see what their thigh highs will look like! Thank god, something to keep me going through the winter.

Well, so long summer dreamin'. My first day of class starts tomorrow and I feel like I've been drafted and must report for duty. This was a good summer, busy, went by fast, but generally pleasant. No turning back now; completely unavoidable and I can't seem to put my finger on as to why the end of this particular summer is so sore for me. It might be because of what awaits me, long winters and days spent in lectures and the stress of it all and then imagining how long I will have to wait for the next summer. No more lingering nights of sitting on my friend's stoops, no more hot shorts, or bare feet, or outdoor music fests, or walking really lit throughout quiet green neighborhoods, or driving with all the windows down, or Diary Queen. Crap, I'm gonna miss Dairy Queen. So for the celebratory-wake I'm heading out for my last summer night to sit on my friend's stoop while we all drink Peach Schnapps and chain smoke. Pretty damn poetic I think.
